I have chosen Steven Soderbergh's 'Solaris' (2002) as my mute clip for Exercise 1, as I think that it gives a lot of room for interesting atmos tracks and isn't too complex. I think that although it could be made into quite a complicated sound design, I plan to simply use sounds that I feel will give the desired effect. I think that often in films, tracks can be over-used and music is overlaid to hide a bad sound design. My plan is to use silence in clips that I feel necessary in order to portray an intended tension, and unnerving effect.
