For the opening, the classical song plays. This then gets gradually quieter as the door opens and is overlayed with a new track of the same song in the same place, but with an altered eq and perspective (one that almost sounds as though it is on the phone to create a radio-style effect). It was difficult to cut the knife sounds so they fit perfectly with the speed it was happening on screen, however I managed to do this and also tried to make every slice a little different, to make it more realistic.
I also incorporated the atmos track of wind to the opening shot, as I felt that this created an eerie atmosphere, and helps to highlight the desolate environment.
Many of these screen grabs are self explanatory. I have uploaded them to demonstrate the different layers I used to create a full 'sound-scape', as well as show the way I altered volumes and changed the direction of sound in certain scenes.
It took be about 4 to 5 full days of editing to complete this piece. Once I had finished the edit, I went into the sound edit room to test the levels on the speakers we would be presenting on. This made me realise that some sounds needed to be much louder, such as breathing for example. Once I had done this, I was happy with the final product.
I had trouble exporting the final piece and found out later that this was because I had a track name 'trolly clash/rock'. An article online made me aware that it was the '/' in the name that stopped the track from exporting.
Overall, although the editing process has been strenuous, I am happy with the end result. I would have liked to have more opportunity to mix the film on speakers as opposed to headphones, as this would have saved time towards the end. However, I understand that there is limited space.
